Highest number of listings reported under contract ever

A recent article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle written by Jessica Saunders reports that Georgia MLS saw the highest number of listings under contract since it began recording the data in 1997.

“According to the Georgia Multiple Listing Service, 3,123 home listings went under contract in the Atlanta metropolitan statistical area during June 7-13,” Saunders writes.  A total of 2,688 listings went under contract during the same week in 2019.

“In Atlanta and the counties of Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Paulding, Rockdale and Henry, 2,603 listings went under contract during June 7-13,” GMLS said.  “The 2,603 2020 listings that week represented about 22.2% of the current 11,674 listings under contract for the area, according to GMLS’ report released Friday.”

The cause for the increase in demand has been attributed to record setting low mortgage interest rates, low housing inventory and an uncertainty about the future of coronavirus and its affect on the housing market.
